The house of Hermès, originally established as an saddler workshop, also demonstrates design, fantasy, and handicraft in its jewellery collection, which is exemplified by exquisite beauty and stunning perfection.
The house of Hermès is founded in 1837 by German-born Thierry Hermès, whose family immigrates to France in 1828. Hermès originally exists as a workshop in Paris and function as saddle-makers and suppliers of riding fittings to European noblemen. They soon expand their goods production to include bags and other fashionable accessories of high-quality leather. In the 1930s Hermès starts producing its trademark silk scarves and ties.
Its move to produce jewellery occurs in 1938 when the first Chaîne d’ancre bracelets go on display as part of their classic collection.
Since 1950 the Le Duc Logo (horse and carriage with duke) represents the company.
From 1951, Robert Dumas-Hermès, related to the family through marriage, leads the company and manages the jewellery collection. In the 1970s and 1980s, George L’Enfant starts designing jewellery for Hermès, creating mainly heavy gold bracelets and colliers.

Das von Thierry Hermès 1837 in Paris gegründete Unternehmen befindet sich bis heute weitgehend im Familienbesitz.
Ursprünglich in erster Linie Leder verarbeitend, kommen im Laufe der Zeit auch modische Accessoires von hoher Qualität dazu.
In den 1930er Jahren produziert Hermès die ersten Tücher, Schals und Kravatten.
1938 kommt das Goldarmband „Chaine d’ancre“ auf den Markt.
Ab 1951 kümmert sich der angeheiratete Robert Dumas-Hermès um die Schmuck Kollektion.
In den 1970er und 1980er Jahren entwirft George L’Enfant für Hermès, vor allem schwere Goldarmbänder und Colliers.
1987 kommt eine große Uhren Kollektion heraus, die sehr erfolgreich ist und dem Haus zu neuem Ruhm verhilft.
Hermès ist heute mit ca.250 Boutiquen in der ganzen Welt vertreten.
