Kutchinsky is a family of goldsmiths and gemstone dealers and is a former purveyor to the court of Ludwig II of Bavaria. At the end of the 19th century they flee from Poland to England and begin with a small jewellery shop in London’s East End.
Joseph Kutchinsky, called Joe, leaves school at the age of 14 to begin working in the family business. His father and uncle teach him the trade from the bottom up. He excels as a diamond cutter, supervises the manufacture of platinum and diamond timepieces, and internalises the company’s standards for quality and service. Joe is a born businessman, talented and charismatic. In 1940 he marries Lily Diamond and is called to serve in the army. In 1945 his son Roger is born, then Paul in 1950. After the war he rebuilds the jewellery business, becoming a pioneer in the use of platinum. He quickly becomes the go-to for lovers of fine jewellery and soon moves his shop to the noble district of Knightsbridge in London. The company grows increasingly stronger and more refined, specialising in works of the highest quality. It relies on exports, particularly to the Middle East. Their jewellery is highly desired and is purchased by famous people from around the world. Both sons join the company. In 1989, Joe steps down in order to take care of his ailing wife. During the Gulf War, Kutchinsky loses its most important customers and cannot continue its operations. In 1991 Moussaieff Jewellers Ltd. acquires Kutchinsky. Joe Kutchinsky dies at the age of 86.

Als Diamantschleifer tut er sich hervor, verantwortet die Herstellung von Platin- und Diamantuhren und verinnerlicht die Qualitäts- und Serviceansprüche des Unternehmens. Joe ist der geborene Geschäftsmann, begabt und charismatisch. 1940 heiratet er Lily Diamond und wird zum Wehrdienst eingezogen. 1945 kommt Sohn Roger auf die Welt, 1950 Paul. Nach dem Krieg baut er das Juweliergeschäft wieder auf, ist der Pioneer bei der Verwendung von Platin im Schmuck. Schnell wird er die Anlaufstelle für Schmuckliebhaber und er zieht mit dem Geschäft ins noble Londoner Knightsbridge. Die Firma entwickelt sich immer stärker und besser, spezialisiert sich auf Stücke von höchster Qualität und setzt auf Export, vor allem in den Mittleren Osten. Die Schmuckstücke sind gefragt und werden weltweit von namhaften Persönlichkeiten erworben. Beide Söhne steigen ins Geschäft ein. 1989 tritt Joe zurück, um seine kranke Frau zu pflegen. Im Zuge des Golfkrieges verliert Kutchinsky seine wichtigsten Kunden und kann sich nicht halten. 1991 kauft Moussaieff Jewellers Ltd. Kutchinsky auf. Im Alter von 86 Jahren stirbt Joe Kutchinsky.
